Order to proceed with construction of the Shelter in the Rainforest

April 4, 2023

On behalf of Garúa, I was present at the issuance of the construction procedure for the new Training Center for Tour Guides of the Avifauna Eugene Eisenmann Foundation. This project will be the breeding ground for future guides passionate about birdwatching in Panama, and we are excited to be a part of it.

With an investment of $75,000, the Panama Tourism Authority (ATP) and the Avifauna Eugene Eisenmann Foundation issued the construction procedure on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, for the construction of the training center for tour guides specializing in birdwatching.

The center will be located at the Panama Rainforest Discovery Center, and for its construction, we will repurpose existing structures on the site that are currently unused. These structures will serve as training rooms and accommodation for scientists, students, and tour guides, among others interested in ornithology, starting in late 2023.

When discussing this project, Líder Sucre, Vice President of the Avifauna Foundation, emphasizes the importance of "small things." Although the construction of a training center may seem like a modest step, it is precisely these types of initiatives that contribute to building the human capital Panama needs. Tourism, at its core, is about meaningful experiences, and this center will play a fundamental role in creating those experiences for both visitors and the Gamboa community.

In a world increasingly valuing sustainability and the preservation of the natural environment, ecotourism has become a growing industry in Panama. With a remarkable diversity of birds, from vibrant hummingbirds to majestic eagles, the country has immense potential to attract bird enthusiasts from around the world. However, to tap into this potential, highly trained tour guides are needed who can take visitors to optimal birdwatching locations and, at the same time, educate them about the importance of conservation.

In summary, the Training Center for Specialized Birdwatching Tour Guides represents much more than infrastructure construction; it is an investment in the future of birdwatching tourism in Panama. Its focus on guide training, biodiversity conservation, and the promotion of sustainable tourism promises to be a valuable asset for the country. The collaboration between ATP and the Avifauna Eugene Eisenmann Foundation is paving the way for a Panama distinguished not only by its natural beauty but also by its commitment to environmental protection and the creation of unforgettable tourist experiences. At Garúa, we are deeply proud to be a part of this project and eagerly anticipate its contribution to sustainable development and the preservation of our country's natural wealth.
